Founded on the philosophy of "People Helping People," Family 1st of Texas Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1935 to serve clerks of the Railway Postal Division of the United States Post Office. The idea then was that Postal employees could pool their resources and provide low-cost loans to one another.
Our role has greatly expanded from the original, founding purpose of providing low-cost loans, but our philosophy of "People helping People" remains the same. A not-for-profit cooperative, the Credit Union still serves postal employees and their families in more than 19 counties in Texas, and offers membership to thousands of people who live, work, worship or attend school in select parts of Downtown and Northeast Fort Worth. We offer quality financial products and services at a low cost – thereby helping members meet and exceed their goals.
What makes us unique?
Ownership: Member-owned
Not-for-profit: profits are returned to member owners.
Social Purpose People Helping People – Credit unions exist to serve their members, not for the profit of a few. Every member counts, including those of modest means. This “people first” philosophy impels credit unions and their employees to get involved in their community and support worthwhile causes.
Volunteer Leadership Each credit union is governed by a volunteer board of directors elected by and from the credit union’s membership.
Financial Education for Members Credit unions place particular importance on educational opportunities for their members and the public to help everyone become better educated consumers of financial services.
